Fall Semester of 2013

I completed my student teaching through MassArt and was place at Cardinal Spellman High School with their only art teacher, Marl Lynott. Cardinal Spellman High School is a Catholic and private college preparatory high school, located in Brockton, MA and was founded in 1958. The Student body is made up of over 700 young men and women that come from over 40 surrounding cities and towns. The faculty are highly educated, with some with a single or double masters. About 98% of their students pursue higher education after they leave Spellman. Not all classes are flipped, but they are traditional too. Reverse, backward, or flip teaching is a blend of learning from online content by watching video lectures or reading instruction at home for homework and letting the full class time be devoted to one-on-one learning. Traditional teaching is the typical classroom set up of desks in rows and a teacher in front, enriching the students with information. Non-traditional classes can have desks arranged in random groups or circles with a mix of traditional teaching and reverse teaching. Through the art program, the students are given the understanding and opportunity to appreciate the perfect contribution of the arts to society, and they develop aesthetic sensibilities through the study of the Arts.
